Touchcast
I have been playing around with Touchcast regularly since our hack for when Cath showed us I was very impressed. As I shared before, when I was trying to make my own Touchcasts I noticed that using the software requires a fast computer and a good internet connection. Because both are lacking in my situation […]
Plickers
This week I have trialled Plickers with my Year 7 class. Plickers is a formative assessment tool and based upon the principles of QR codes. By handing out unique qr codes to all students (downloaded for free on the website) I can assess and record their understanding of a particular topic by scanning the answers […]
QR codes and maths
I see myself using QR codes in the future where I will direct (struggling) students to one of my YouTube videos with further instructions. These QR codes they can then glue in their notebooks next to the question which it refers to for future reference.
GBL and Literacy
I believe Maths is not the best subject for GBL for the game-play most of the time is not part of the learning experience. Is it therefore really necessary to deliver the content in a game. Does that develop students’ understanding of the topic better compared to a more traditional approach? I do use games […]

www.proprofs.com Creating your own games
http://www.mes-cairo.com/course/view.php?id=3975#section-1 I have embedded a game I created myself on the Wired Teachers’ page on Moodle (follow the link). I believe the game meets all three important criteria: – The design is visually attractive (I believe so anyway) – It is inclusive – Considering the goal of the game is to order the steps of […]
History/Geography/Science creating games
Still trying to create my own interesting maths game, I came across the following site: http://www.purposegames.com/games In minutes you can create a game and assess whether students are able to recollect basic information/facts. So I see the use of it for history (e.g. dates/names), geography (e.g. capital cities/naming parts of a volcano) and science (e.g. […]
Gamestar Mechanic
http://www.gamestarmechanic.com There is a free version that allows you to create your own game. It looks good and it is relatively easy to do. However, I am wondering how to add questions to my game (or is it only possible to create a game where the avatar needs to reach the finish line without answering […]
